Khaled Ramadan

Khaled Ramadan was in residency at Villa Eläintarha in April 2026. He is an intermedia curator, filmmaker, educator and cultural writer based in Berlin. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses video, photography, installation, and research-based media art, with a focus on visual culture, political narratives, and the interrelations between media, history, and identity. He is currently the curator of the National Pavilion of Nauru at the Venice Biennale 2026.

The Nauru Pavilion explores the complex entanglements between environmental degradation, colonial extraction, and geopolitical visibility, taking the island nation’s history of phosphate mining as a point of departure. His work engages with constructed media and informational art, critically addressing issues of globalization and representation. As both artist and curator, Ramadan has participated in and contributed to major international exhibitions and platforms, including co-curating Manifesta 8, Spain (2010), as well as curating and co-curating the Maldives Pavilion (2013), the Malaysian Pavilion (2022), and the Nauru Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2026).
