Séverine Bascouert & Sammy Stein

FRANCE ATLANTIDE NEWSLETTER

Séverine Bascouert & Sammy Stein were in residency at Villa Eläintarha in May/June for their project at Pitted Dates gallery: The France Atlantide project, which brings together publications, documentary archives, and installations, and it explores the spaces occupied by individuals whose ideas, beliefs, and convictions defy common sense.

In the words of the artists: “In the 1950s, amateur ufologists exchanged fanzines containing reports from contactees, stories of unexplained sightings, and enigmatic photographs. Some shorter publications, available by subscription, circulated in the form of a ‘newsletter.’ They were used to share recent discoveries, repost articles, and provide updates on the editorial team’s activities. For the exhibition “France Atlantide Newsletter” at Pitted Dates in collaboration with Under the Leaf, we present this research in fragments, including drawings, photos, and documents collected during our visits. Our residency in Helsinki is also an opportunity to print a zine and, who knows, to discover new and unique territories.”
