You are warmly welcome to Animators’ Hangout at Villa Eläintarha on 26th Feb. In collaboration with the Finnish Animation Guild, we gather for presentations by Menghui and Sara Saffari followed by a hands-on workshop by Heta Jokinen.

Sara Saffari is a 28-year-old multidisciplinary artivist and filmmaker from Iran, based in Helsinki. She will discuss how she approached a socio-political topic as an artist and activist through incorporating poetry in her animation documentary film, How Much for How Many (2025).

Menghui is a VR director focused on immersive storytelling and world-building. Her VR film The Big Cube was selected for the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and screened internationally. Menghui will present how she uses the abstraction of shapes for animated worldbuilding.

Heta Jokinen’s thesis, Haptic Wandering in the Animation Land from Aalto University concentrated on the process of finding this with the hands and body in her graduation film Drawn in Water. Heta will be facilitating a workshop on, Wandering with the Hands where we will seek for a feedback loop between our hand and materials.

The event is open for all. However, there is limited capacity at the Villa. Please RSVP via this link to secure your spot.
