Jean Michel Roux

  • by

In early June 2025, French filmmaker Jean Michel Roux spent a week in the tranquil surroundings of Villa Eläintarha before heading to Karelia in Eastern Finland, where he is working on a documentary film exploring the connection between Finns and their forests. Jean Michel is known for his 2017 documentary film Angel of the North (Pohjolan Enkeli). Based on Hugo Simberg’s celebrated painting The Wounded Angel, the film shows a diverse array of Finnish people sharing their personal reflections on the enigmatic artwork. It’s about spirituality, angels, the beyond, art, teenagers, melancholy and hope.
