The Basel-based visual artist Judith Eckert has been staying with us at the Villa for two weeks in September 2025.
Judith’s work centers on drawing and installation, complemented by objects, printmaking, performance, and interdisciplinary collaborations with musicians and dancers. During her residency she explored the local contemporary art scene, visiting galleries, museums, and the Helsinki Biennaali.
She used the calm atmosphere of the residency to continue her current drawing series Morph. These works refer to the installation Habitat previously exhibited in public spaces. They ask fundamental questions of structure and form, including the concept of bounded shapes, overlay, separation and contact.
