Lars Fredriksson was in residency at Villa Eläintarha in July 2026. Born in Sweden, he is a visual artist based in Malmö. He creates oil and acrylic paintings and different kinds of mixed media works using charcoal, pastels and spray paint. The cold colors and the abstract landscape composition instill both a feeling of peace and playfulness.
The titles, which are often metaphorical, are central and short metaphorical texts have lately become a complement to the visual art. Installation photo of bent steel is another artistic sidetrack and the steel in the form of a ball symbolizes negative thoughts.
The last five years, travelling and artist residencies have become a key for his creative process. Lars truly enjoys the contrast of working both in big cities and remote rural areas and his recent works have been made in places that stretch from New York City and the west coast of Ireland to the archipelagos of Stockholm and Turku, and now Helsinki.
This summer at Villa Eläintarha, he will finalise the work with his ongoing painting project ‘I didn’t turn around’ which will be exhibited at Juste Gallery in Stockholm in August.
